“The Best Doggone Bakery” – Excerpt from Chapter 13: Meetings

Sandra had come through, and now Millie stared at the building that would become The Best Doggone Bakery. This is really happening! She stuck her key in the lock and pushed the door open.

All Millie knew was that Sandra had somehow managed to get the location of the grandparents and emailed them a new contract of sale. They’d signed it, the title company had changed the deed, and they had settled on the building yesterday. Carl now owned the building.

So, here she was standing in the center hallway, allowing herself to dream. She visualized opening the door and sniffing air filled with the aroma of vanilla, cinnamon, and maybe sometimes smelly dog fur. There were dogs plopped on the floors, dogs perched on people’s laps, and one huge Great Dane with his feet up on the counter ordering his own cookie. It was fun to picture her partners walking around sporting baseball caps and aprons with a Best Doggone Bakery logo printed on them.
